Welcome to Super Mario Kart! A place where eight famous Nintendo characters, each with different racing capabilities compete for kart cups on your Super NES.
Super Mario Kart was released in Japan on August 27, 1992, in North America on September 1, 1992, and in Europe on January 21, 1993 and is the third best selling Super Nintendo game of all time with over eight million games sold. The game is often credited with creating the kart-racing sub genre of video games and played a key game in expanding the Mario series into non-platforming games.
Modes:
Single Player Modes: In single player mode you can choose from Mario Kart GP or Time Trial.
- In Mario Kart GP (Grand Prix) the player races against seven computer-controlled characters in a series of cups, Mushroom Cup, Flower Cup and Star Cup and Special cup. Each cup consists of four levels, each with five-laps. There are three levels of difficulty, 50cc, 100cc, and 150cc. For the player to move on to the next race in the cup, they must come in at least fourth place. Points are accrued by finishing in the top four positions in a race; first to fourth place receive nine, six, three and one points. At the end of the races, the player with the most points wins the cup.
- In time trial mode players race to try and set as fast a time as possible on the same tracks as Grand Prix.
Multiplayer Modes: In Multiplayer mode you can choose from Mario Kart GP, Match Race and Battle Mode. The multiplayer modes support two players and the second player uses the bottom half of the screen.
- Mario Kart GP is the same as in single player, the only difference being that there are now two human controlled drivers and six computer controlled drivers.
- Match Race involves the two players going head to head without any computer characters on a track of their choosing.
- In Battle Mode the two players again go head to head but this time in one of four dedicated Battle Mode courses. Each player starts with three balloons around their kart which can be destroyed by power ups fired by the other player. The first player to have all three of their balloons destroyed loses the battle.

Items: In Super Mario Kart there are many items that you can get by driving your kart over the question mark box. You can hold one item or set of items at a time and they can be used to help you or huirt your opponents. The following is a list of items in Super Mario Kart.
Banana: If you or an opponent drives over a banana, the driver will spin out. Press A to lay it down behind you, or UP and A to throw it in front of you.
|
Coins: You will receive two coins. Coins are useful so you can go faster and not spin out if you get bumped.
|
Feather: When you use the feather, your driver will do a high 360 degree jump. This is useful for avoiding shells in Battle Mode or to jump walls for shortcuts while racing.
|
Ghost: The ghost is only available in Battle Mode. It temporary gives you invisibility and invulnerability from most attacks. It also steals your opponents item if they have one.
|
Green Shell: A green shell that goes straight if you shoot it forward. Press A to shoot it straight forward or DOWN and A to lay it down like a banana.
|
Lightning: The most useful weapon in the game. When you use this, it will shrink all other drivers unless they have a star, causing them to go slower and be vulnerable to you.
|
Mushroom: Using the mushroom will give you a boost of speed that lasts about three seconds. It's better to use them on straight roads or you can lose control.
|
Red Shell: Similar to the green shell only the red shells are heat syncing meaning you don't really have to aim at your opponent. They will just follow them.
|
Star: The star gives you invincibility from all attacks, increases your speed, and if you hit an opponent, they spin out.
